A strategic plan for an independent school is a roadmap that sets big-picture goals and priorities so that every decision supports the school’s mission and helps students thrive. Over the last year, with the help of experts in the field, our board, parents, faculty and staff, we have worked diligently to create a strategic plan that will align our community around a shared vision for the future. The intent is to strengthen our programs and operations, and to ensure we continue to provide an exceptional, forward-looking education now and for years to come.

We aspire to be the leading mountain school in the West where children embrace challenge, flourish through connection, and engage in the radical pursuit of awe to discover there is more in them than they know.

PCDS Pillars

Connected Community
Our connected community means belonging to a community that learns and grows together. From morning drop-off to community events, shared traditions to everyday conversations, connection is woven into the fabric of school life and every child feels that they belong.

Strive for Challenge
Our pursuit of excellence is not for the sake of marks or medals, but is a mindset that fuels deep, social-emotional and academic growth. Students at PCDS grow by stretching themselves. Across the curriculum and through the opportunities provided in the community, each learner is encouraged to lean into challenges—emerging not just more capable, but more courageous, resilient, and as the best version of themselves.

Expansive Experiences
Meaningful, authentic education connects disciplines, draws from the natural world around us, and nurtures the whole child. Our interdisciplinary Learning Expedition curriculum blends subjects in purposeful ways, encouraging students to see patterns, explore big ideas, and make connections that matter. At PCDS, education is not confined within the walls of the school —it’s expansive, immersive, developmentally challenging, and deeply human.
